You’ve recently had your sample collected by Quest and you see a notification that your lab results are ready to review. You start to feel like you want more information–what does “HDL” even mean?! What was my level last time? What should I ask my healthcare provider? It’s your health information, but sometimes it can be tough to understand.

Quest believes digital health tools, like artificial intelligence (AI), can be a way to better understand medical information and personal health data. If you’re currently using AI to better understand your health, you’re not alone: A recent survey found that over 40 million people worldwide use AI tools every day for health information.1 AI could help healthcare providers perform many daily tasks more efficiently, giving them more time to focus on you 2 and your personal treatment plan.3 AI can also help bridge the gap between patient health data, your understanding of what it may suggest, and preparation for conversations with your healthcare provider.

Quest now offers you more support to manage your health journey with Quest AI Companion, a new AI feature available in MyQuest®

With your permission, this secure, interactive AI feature can help you achieve the following:

  • Better understand your lab test results by explaining terms in more personalized, easy-to-understand language

  • Identify and explain personal health trends from consecutive test results to help you track your health over time and share with your healthcare provider

  • Prepare thoughtful questions for discussion with your healthcare provider

Quest AI Companion empowers patients to access the benefits of AI and is powered by Quest’s decades of scientific expertise and quality data.

In a world of public AI tools, you might wonder about the safety of your personal health data. The key difference with Quest AI Companion is that it operates entirely within the secure, HIPAA-compliant MyQuest environment you already know and trust. You never need to manually input your lab test results into a public AI tool, avoiding the concerns that may arise when sharing private health data.

Please Note: Quest AI Companion explains your test results but cannot provide a diagnosis or recommend treatment. It is a tool to support you, not to replace the expertise and judgment of your healthcare provider.

Here's how to get started

Your privacy and our technology

Quest AI Companion is built in conjunction with a Google AI-powered chatbot. The purpose of Quest AI Companion in MyQuest is to summarize your completed test results, explain the test's purpose, and identify result trends over time. It answers questions in plain language to help you discuss your health with your healthcare provider. However, it cannot diagnose problems, recommend treatments, or replace your healthcare provider's expertise. Quest Al Companion doesn't have access to information about your medications, diagnoses, or medical procedures. You can't upload other medical information into MyQuest or send it to Quest Al Companion. It is available 24/7 to answer questions, but it is not human and may make mistakes, so always discuss your results with your healthcare provider.

Quest protects your information using industry-standard protocols and does not share your data with advertisers or outside parties. Quest AI Companion accesses your completed test results (up to 20 results less than 5 years old) and your sex and age from your MyQuest account to provide appropriate information. Your test results are never used to train any public large language model (LLM), and data is kept separate from Google's public AI services within Quest's secure, HIPAA-compliant environment. You can provide feedback on Quest AI Companion's answers, but to protect your privacy, chat sessions cannot be resumed, so save important answers by copying and pasting them into a secure document.

Frequently asked questions

Quest Al Companion is an artificial intelligence (AI)-powered chatbot that, with your permission, can read and summarize your completed test results in MyQuest. It can explain the purpose of the test and tell you about trends in your results over time. You can ask Quest Al Companion questions and get plain-language answers to help you talk to your healthcare provider about your health.

Quest Al Companion only has access to the last 20 completed test results in your MyQuest account, if they're less than 5 years old. Tests that are listed as still In Progress can't be read by Quest Al Companion, but you can start another conversation with Quest Al Companion when they're complete.

Your MyQuest account only has lab tests from Quest, so Quest Al Companion doesn't have access to information about your medications, diagnoses, or medical procedures. You can't upload other medical information into MyQuest or send it to Quest Al Companion.

Quest Al Companion is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, to answer your questions before a visit with your healthcare provider.

Always talk to your healthcare provider about your results. Quest Al Companion provides information and has been tested for verification and validity of the information it is providing, but it's not a human or a healthcare provider and may make mistakes. Quest Al Companion only sees your test results in your MyQuest account, whereas your healthcare provider knows your whole health history. Only your healthcare provider can diagnose you or suggest treatments.

Using Quest AI Companion is completely optional.

If you do decide to use Quest Al Companion, the following applies:

•Quest AI Companion has access to completed results, your sex and date of birth as entered in your MyQuest account. Quest Al Companion uses your sex and age to provide appropriate information about your results. We only use your test results, sex, and age to answer the questions you ask Quest Al Companion

To review the sex and date of birth you provided in your MyQuest account, see the Account Settings > Personal information section

•Quest Al Companion does not have information or test results from the people you have listed in MyCircle (for example, family members, children, or caregivers)

•Quest Al Companion is built in conjunction with Google®, with strict security measures to ensure your information is protected. All data sent to Quest Al Companion is kept separate from Google's public Al services and is handled within Quest's secure, HIPAA-compliant environment

•Your test results are never used to train any large language model (LLM). We will treat all health-related information submitted by you in accordance with the Quest Diagnostics Notice of Privacy Practices.

•We may use your thumbs-up, thumbs-down, star ratings, and chat transcripts to improve how Quest Al Companion works (for example, answer length, tone, and accuracy) but not for large language model training.
