My Quest Story: Barry Martens

I joined the Lenexa, KS Logistics Team more than 2 years ago as a Route Service Representative after previously working for the local police department. I appreciate that I have a future here at Quest and am very pleased with the way the company takes care of our people.

I always viewed law enforcement as a customer service profession. I am grateful to work for Quest now where I again have the opportunity to make a positive impact on the community.

A highlight from my career as a police officer was when I delivered a baby during a routine traffic stop, and the parents later named me godfather of their new daughter!

Like that memorable traffic stop, I had another unexpected and heartwarming moment during one of my recent specimen pickups for Quest. I was invited into the client’s office where they told me I was nominated and selected as the client’s “Employee of the Month”—even though I am not their employee.

The client told me I was selected because I arrive with a positive and professional attitude, properly handle specimens, and provide a high level of service for the location and their patients. Our local leadership team told me this is the first time a client recognized a Quest employee as their Employee of the Month!

I enjoy working at Quest because I like taking care of customers and enjoy having the ability to interact with them on my route.  I know each employee at every client stop by their first name—and they all know mine. Every time I enter a client’s office, they all call out my name—it feels like the show Cheers.
