'An Incredible Time to be in Health Care'

Steve Rusckowski, our Chairman, President and CEO, told attendees at the annual American Clinical Laboratory Association (ACLA) meeting in Washington, D.C. ,that “now is an incredible time to be in the health care industry.” ACLA is a not-for-profit association representing the nation’s leading national, regional and esoteric clinical laboratories.

Steve Rusckowski, Quest Diagnostics Chairman, President and CEO, addresses the American Clinical Laboratory Association (ACLA) 2017 annual meeting in Washington, D.C.Rusckowski noted the important role that members of the lab industry play in advancing precision medicine, driving compliance to guidelines set forth by leading public health organizations and bringing value that help bends healthcare’s cost curve. “Innovation is the solution to the growing cost of health care and we are one of the innovation industries,” he said.Acknowledging that health care is in a time of great change, the future offers an abundance of opportunity. The innovations being produced by the clinical laboratory industry are central to advances in genomics, personalized medicine and drug development, which will ultimately benefit patient care.Partnerships were also a key theme of Rusckowski’s discussion. Over the last three years ACLA reached out to many partners in an effort to work together and bring forward new innovative solutions to help patients. Rusckowski noted that “no single entity has all the answers or the resources to find those resources alone.”In addition to speaking about the lab industry’s impact on the future of healthcare, Rusckowski formally ended his three-year tenure as Chairman of ACLA. Curt Hanson, M.D. the Chief Medical Officer at Mayo Medical Laboratories will now lead the organization.
