About

Dr Kagan is currently the senior director of bioinformatics for molecular infectious disease at Quest Diagnostics Nichols Institute in San Juan Capistrano, California. He has been with Quest Diagnostics for 27 years, and his past roles include research and development (R&D) scientist, associate scientific director, associate director of bioinformatics, and director of bioinformatics. Dr Kagans’ areas of expertise include viral sequencing assays for HIV, HBV, HCV and CMV drug resistance and genotyping, SARS-CoV-2 whole genome sequencing and targeted metagenomic sequencing. Dr Kagan has authored or coathored over 40 journal articles and 50 meeting abstracts. His current areas of professional interest include next generation sequencing applications in infectious disease, bioinformatic pipelines, metagenomics and emerging infectious disease surveillance.
