About

William A. Meyer III, PhD, D (ABMM), MLS (ASCP), CM is the Director and Medical Science Liaison for Infectious Diseases and Immunology at Quest Diagnostics. He also serves as Technical Director in Clinical Pathology for numerous National Institutes of Health (NIH) and Centers for Disease Control (CDC)-funded laboratory testing services associated with HIV research studies.

 

Dr Meyer received a Bachelor of Science in medical technology from Loyola College, and then completed his PhD in medical microbiology and immunology from the University of Maryland at Baltimore.

 

Dr Meyer has co-authored more than 185 laboratory-based, research publications and conference abstracts focused on the diagnosis, management, and disease progression of infectious diseases. Many of his publications are centered around HIV clinical trials and related topics. Dr Meyer has functioned as a Protocol Virologist for several NIH-funded protocols including: the Adult and Pediatric HIV Clinical Trials Groups (ACTG/IMPAACT); the Pediatric HIV/AIDS Cohort Study (PHACS); and the Adolescent Medicine Trials Network for HIV/AIDS Interventions (ATN).

 

Dr Meyer currently serves as Chair of the NIH AIDS Program Virology Quality Assessment Advisory Board and is a long-standing member of the NIH Men’s and Women’s Combined HIV Cohort Study Laboratory Committee. He is a Diplomate in the American Board of Medical Microbiology.

 

Dr Meyer is certified by the Board of Certification of the American Society for Clinical Pathology as a Medical Laboratory Scientist.  He is board-certified as a Diplomate by the American Board of Medical Microbiology in Medical and Public Health Virology. He a member of several societies including the American Society for Clinical Pathology, Pan American Society for Clinical Virology, American Society for Microbiology, Infectious Diseases Society of America, American College of Rheumatology, and American Association for the Study of Liver Diseases.
