Abstract

Pharmacogenomics is a tool that can assist providers in optimizing drug selection and dosing, help avoid costly adverse effects, and identify responders and non-responders to medications. New and revised guidelines published by the Clinical Pharmacogenetics Implementation Consortium (CPIC) are available to aid clinicians in utilizing pharmacogenomics in clinical practice. In addition, research continues to elucidate the clinical and economic benefits of pharmacogenomics in various patient types including mental health and polypharmacy patients. Despite mounting evidence of clinical and economic utility, barriers still exist for the implementation of pharmacogenomics as standard of care. The webinar will address these topics and others to provide an update on the current state of pharmacogenomics and identify ways pharmacogenomics can be brought into the forefront of clinical practice.

Objective:

1. Review recently published pharmacogenomic guidelines

2. Summarize pharmacogenomic literature regarding mental health and polypharmacy

3. Discuss ways to overcome barriers in delivering effective pharmacogenomic care
