Cytolethal Distending Toxin B Antibody and Vinculin Antibody
Enzyme Linked Immunosorbent Immunoassay (ELISA)
See Laboratory Report
Recent reports suggest that elevated anti-Cytolethal distending toxin B (CdtB) and anti-Vinculin antibody levels are more commonly found in patients with diarrhea predominant irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) than in healthy controls. These same reports found that patients with other bowel diseases and a subset of healthy patients may also have elevated levels of anti-CdtB anti-Vinculin. Patients with celiac disease, in particular, were found to commonly have elevated anti-CdtB levels. Moreover, a positive anti-CdtB and/or anti-Vinculin antibody does not exclude inflammatory bowel disease or another diagnosis. Results should be considered in the context of the overall medical evaluation.
