Herpesvirus 6 Antibodies (IgG, IgM)
1 mL serum. Separate from cells as soon as possible.
Plastic transport tube
This assay was developed and its performance characteristics have been determined by Quest Diagnostics. It has not been cleared or approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. The FDA has determined that such clearance or approval is not necessary. Performance characteristics refer to the analytical performance of the test.
Due to this high prevalence of HHV-6 Antibody, correlations of single IgG Titers with specific diseases are of little clinical value. Evidence of acute infection or reactivation of HHV-6 is demonstrated by a significant rise or seroconversion if IgG and IgM Titers.
HHV-6 is a distinct herpes virus that typically causes a self-limiting illness in patients who are not immunocompromised. In some patients, especially if immumocompromised, HHV-6 can cause febrile convulsions in infants, encephalitis mononucleosis-like symptoms, and hepatitis.
