Down SyndromePreventionDown syndrome cannot be prevented. But if you are
pregnant and you know that your child will have Down syndrome, you can prepare
for his or her special needs by: - Finding a doctor who has experience caring for
children with Down syndrome.
- Learning about the condition. Visit
your local library or bookstore to learn more about Down syndrome. Also, see
the Other Places to Get Help section of this topic.
- Joining a
support group. Talking and sharing with other parents of children with Down
syndrome can help you manage difficult feelings. It can also help you know what
kinds of challenges to expect, as well as help you to discover the joys other
parents have experienced with their children.
