Who is affected by mitral valve regurgitation?

Chronic mitral valve regurgitation (MR) is a common disorder, although the exact number of people affected by the condition is difficult to estimate.

But it is known that MR is more common in people who have mitral valve prolapse or coronary artery disease. And the incidence of MR increases with age.
