Nausea and vomiting with a fever and diarrhea are common symptoms of
viral stomach flu and food poisoning. These symptoms usually start to improve
within 12 to 24 hours. After 48 hours, your symptoms should be mild. Diarrhea
usually goes away within a week.
Fever also increases your chances of
dehydration by increasing fluid loss through sweating
and rapid breathing to cool the body. You may not be able to keep fluids down,
or you may not feel like drinking.
A fever and changes in behavior or a decreased level of alertness may
mean a serious infection is present. Symptoms that may indicate a more serious
infection include a severe stiff neck, shaking chills, or fainting. Call your
doctor right away if you have these symptoms.
