What may increase your risk for a breast problem?

Some studies show that the risk of having a breast problem is higher for women who have any of the following conditions or take certain medicines. Be sure to tell your health professional.

Conditions

  • Are of childbearing age
  • Have irregular menstrual cycles
  • Are older than age 60

Medicines

  • Birth control pills (oral contraceptives)
  • Hormone replacement therapy
  • Infertility drugs
  • Corticosteroids, such as prednisone
  • Cimetidine, such as Tagamet
