Who is affected by chlamydiaChlamydia is the most common sexually transmitted
disease (STD) in the United States. About 3 million people are infected with
chlamydia every year.1 Reported rates of the illness are higher in women than in men.
However, experts assume that of all new cases, half occur in men and half occur
in women. Most people with chlamydia are not aware that they are infected and
do not seek testing.1
