Problems with the uterus and preterm labor

Several different uterine problems can lead to preterm labor, including:

• A weakened, thin cervix (incompetent cervix).
• An abnormally shaped uterus.
• Too much amniotic fluid (polyhydramnios) in the uterus.

Problems with the uterus are not common causes of preterm labor.
