Medical history for a blocked tear duct
During the medical history for a blocked tear duct, the health professional will ask the parents of a baby with a possible blocked tear duct the following questions:
- Was there a problem during your baby's birth?
- Do your baby's eyes often look wet? Do tears often run down his or her face? When did you first notice these symptoms?
- Has your baby had any eye or sinus infections?
- Has your baby had any injuries or surgery on his or her face?
- Does your family have a history of blocked tear ducts?
The health professional will ask adults similar questions and may also ask the following:
- Have you been exposed to any strong chemicals or irritating substances (such as smoke or blowing dust) for a long period of time?
- Do you have a history of allergies?
- Have you noticed what seems to make your symptoms better or worse?
