Physical exam for attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD)

During the physical exam for attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), the health professional will:

• Measure and weigh the child and compare these figures with normal ranges for his or her age.
• Check the child's blood pressure.
• Test hearing and vision.
• Inspect the child's face, arms, and legs for any birth defects.
• Check the child's nervous system for any movements that the child does not have control over; coordination problems; or abnormal, quick automatic responses (reflexes).

The health professional may perform a complete physical exam to evaluate the child's general health.
