Medical history for thrush
Your doctor may suspect thrush if you:
- Are receiving treatment with antibiotics, steroids (especially if using an inhaler), or medications that weaken the immune system's ability to fight infection (immunosuppressants).
- Have a history of illness (such as diabetes or HIV) or are frail (debilitated).
- Have false teeth, braces, or a retainer.
- Smoke.
Your doctor may suspect thrush in an infant if:
- A newborn or infant refuses to eat.
- The mother of a newborn has a vaginal yeast infection.
- The nursing mother has sore, red nipples.
