Low-grade squamous intraepithelial lesions (LSIL)Low-grade squamous intraepithelial lesions (LSIL) are mildly abnormal
cells found on a Pap smear. These abnormal cells do not usually develop into
cancer. LSIL is often caused by infection with the human papillomavirus
(HPV). Some HPV causes genital warts.
