Cut or puncture over a possible facial fracture
A cut or puncture to your face or inside your mouth may occur when a jaw or facial bone is broken. The bone may come through the skin or poke into the mouth.
Injury from a foreign object can also cause a cut or puncture wound to your face or inside your mouth. A foreign object may remain embedded in your face and cause problems.
Bacteria from the skin or mouth can enter a wound and cause a serious infection.
Prompt treatment of an infection can prevent complications.
